running and cycling routes

I will use the same route for both cycling and running. It is 9 mile route around cutler and palmetto bay. I will start doing 1 first week of the run per day and then do 2 the second week until the end. Then When I do the cycling part I need to ride 10 per day.

strategy

Record like this is different than most records. Instead of going as fast as you can you go as long distance as you can per day. If you do it slowly it is ok. The distance is everything. It is the distance you can do day after day for a long time without resting. Because one of the requirements is you ca not take a rest day. So doing a 30 mile running day and then rest the day after is not possible. My plan is to do 15 km per day first 7 days. Then increase to 30 km per day and stay there. That means I will finish the running part 3d week of march. Then I will start the cycling part. I am good in cycling so i plan to do first week 40 km per day Then increase to century per day for a month. My swimming part is to swim 5 km per day. My max is around 16 km or 10 miles per day. but 5 km is the swim I am planning


Training run 2

I was studying running techniques. How to prevent blisters. Next week I will continue testing on my runs. I will get headband for my camera this week. I will start run with it. And training my body to run day after day for a long time. 

For people following me on strava I am now running now and not doing much cycling. And I will do the running training next 10 days until I start the run 1 february. Then i  will continue running. until I finish the running part of the record in middle of march.After that i will start the cycling part and do it for 2 months. Then swimming and running again. More about that later.

 


video testing

I did a video test yesterday. I used gopro hero 5 black with 128 GB sd card and included battery. The battery died after 2 hours and I did 16 Gb of video so the card works for 8 hour of activity. I have other 128 GB sd that I can put in the camera if i do longer activity. I will use external battery that will last for 9 hours next week and if i need I can get other batttery.

The video will be 64 GB of video per day. 143 days or 9203 GB, I  need 1 10 TB external storage.


First training run.

I did my first run yesterday since 2006 10 miles. The circle I am running is 10 miles. i Plan to do 2 circles max or 20 miles pr day when I do the record attempt. The day after I am little stiff in my calves but nothing to be scared about. I have blisters but the shoes are good so Next time I run I will use petroleum jelly and lot of it. That will prevent the blisters. Here is the running strategy. I will run 10 mile days first week. Then when my body is ready for longer distance I will move to 20 mile days.


Trail rides with EBC and then ride back

Saturday sunday and monday I will join Everglades Bycicle club and ride 3 trails in north florida. West Orange trail in Orlando on saturday ,Withlacoochee Trail  on sunday and  Van Fleet State Trail on monday. On tuesday I will ride back. to miami. Will ride highway 50 to cocoa beach and down A1A to miami


mobile to miami

Last november I did a ride from Mobile Alabama to miami and then to key west. I did the same route as the pensacola 1600 from Pensacola to Perry. After Perry the 1600 km rando route goes down us 27 but I continued through Mt Dora to Orlando. US 50 through Christmas and Titusville to cocoa beach and down A1A to Miami. and later to Key west and back. I did it touring style riding between hotels. Longest was 120 miles and shortest 50 miles. Highway 399 between Pensacola and Panama City beach was closed when I tried to ride it. I had to turn back and ride more than 10 miles to highway 98. On 98 there were closures and detours on the way because they were fixing small bridges. So when you ride this route let someone drive the route day or so before to check if the bridges are still closed and ask about 399 closures. About 10 miles before Mexico beach there is a military training area with a sign along the road about explosives. So I dont recommend walking off the road. If you have a flat there stay on the road fixing it. If you have time go to a oyster restaurant. Lot of them in this area. The road is usually good. No cracks in the pavement. In the area around 100 miles before Perry there are not many shops or gas stations. Found 1 extra small shop around 40 miles w of Perry not on maps. In this area mobile phone connection is scarce. But sometimes you can ask for wifi. Even on small restaurants. That is it. Enjoy the ride. I enjoyed it alot.


Guinness

Lot of things happening. Long version. When i walked around Iceland I focused on finishing it and I was not thinking of Guinnes world record at all. Then I decided to cycle around iceland. I knew both the walking and the cycling part were Icelandic records. Nobody had done this before. After the cycling part was finished 2016 i got the idea that probably this could be a Guinness world record in longest triathlon. After talking to Guinness they decided to look into it and told me that because i dont have full video coverage of the attempt it is not qualified for longest triathlon even if it is nearly 2000 miles longer than existing longest triathlon.I have been talking to existing record holder Norma Bastidas about how she did her triathlon record and I am thinking of doing full attempt on her record. her record is 4983 km total. My record attempt is planed to be 8000 km. My weak part is running. I will test my ability next 2 weeks in that category. I am strong in swimming and cycling so that will not be a problem. If my running test is positive i plan to start my attempt beginning of february and finish 7 months later. I will do this attempt in Miami most of it but part of the cycling will be done as a long point to point ride to Halifax in the spring. I will send another status in 2 weeks letting you know if i am up for the running part. So please no media coverage yet until I give a green light.


St Augustine to Halifax Nova Scotia

I will do a little ride to Halifax from where I returned in my last ride. This is a unsupported ride. I will ride between hotels .The start will be middle of May or beginning of jun depends on weather. It is around 30 days. 

My ride last christmas was a training ride for this ride. My ride from Mobile Alabama to Miami too. i wil ldo few training rides before i start. My trainng rides are to Ft Pierce and back. 

 


Christmas eve on the bike

On cristmas eve I was riding from Daytona to St augustine florida in a good tailwind. Iwas riding fast north. My plan was to send my father SMS in Iceland when it is 6 Icelandic time or 1 eastern time. Found a gas station with internet connection just before 1 and sent the sms. Then few miles later I rode past a guy playing bag pipes in front of his house af Flagler beach. he was good so I stopped to listen to him. I listened to him for 10 minutes. This was my christmas music. Great moment. moments like this are part of the reason why I ride long rides like this.
